Screenshot Saturday - Building a Bridge

In what will be a signature feature of the next major update, here's some fire ants building a bridge over water using their own bodies!

Once a bridge is in place, other fire ants can traverse it to reach otherwise unreachable areas and their resources. Floating on the surface, the mesh of ants exploits the surface tension of the water to remain afloat, so is naturally very buoyant. Of course, that doesn't stop an unfortunate ant from being swept away and eventually drowned if circumstances change suddenly.

Note this is very much a work in progress - the ants won't queue up like they do in the first video (it's a consequence of some pretty intense testing we've been doing for this complex new feature).

This one is a little closer to how the final results will look when ants are freely moving back and forth along a bridge.

...and one more for good measure, because Liam worked hard to get us a Screenshot Saturday this week!

Looks weird that only one ant goes at a time and turns around quite weirdly, but I know it's a WIP! Good work!
