This is sort of like the starting difficulty slider, where the amount of food given by each creature is predetermined by the player for the first few moments of the game. This would allow for much easier creatures to be present without necessarily kickstarting the colony. Or giving more food from creatures as time goes on. This would allow for even more player configuration and lead to some interesting Freeplay games.

We have a design philosophy where you know what you're getting from a thing. Easy mode is a slight exception (it takes 50% off the health of all enemies) but altering the amount of food given is contradictory to this philosophy. This is why the higher difficulty levels have more enemies instead of more difficult enemies.
