in rising tide medium with the mortar ants, I am really considering getting a refund

Please send us the crash reports so that we can take a look at them. If you do want a refund make sure you don't go over 2 hours on Steam (assuming you've bought it on Steam).

Follow the instructions at the top of the thread linked here to get the reports to us (just pressing the "send report" button isn't enough; that goes to Epic Games who make the engine and not us). Most crashes are caused by hardware issues.

We have taken a look at this today. I have added in some crash protection though it was not entirely clear why it was crashing where it was. When we do release the next build I will let you know and you can let us know if it has solved the problem.
