I feel like it's an underrated area of study that's primarily targeted by people going into law. It's among the humanities, and covers a wide array of topics. These topics feature individual positions, discourse on what those positions mean, and arguments related to those positions.

A (non-exhaustive) list of areas in philosophy:

  • Philosophy of aesthetics
  • Philosophy of mind
  • Philosophy of science
  • Philosophy of religion
  • Philosophy of mathematics
  • Ontology
  • Logic
  • Ethics
  • Meta-ethics
  • Political philosophy
  • Feminist philosophy
  • Philosophy of truth
  • Epistemology
  • Metaphysics

And to add to this, each of these areas of philosophy has a lengthy and rich history. Of philosophical positions, the most famous go back to the Greeks, and the oldest appeared in ancient eastern philosophy.

If you get the opportunity, I couldn't urge you more to take a philosophy class as an elective. It's a great way to build critical thinking skills, and you may gain a new perspective of the world.

I was bored, so I thought I'd share my favorite field with this forum, while also hopefully discovering anyone with a shared intrigue. Hopefully it's peaked someone's interest.

I never thought that much about philosophy that much. Probably because that "The Entire worlds a simulation, everything is simulated!" turned my off. Ill look more into it

Lol, I don't know if simulation theory is exactly "big" in philosophy. The only positions that are really contemporary are those formed in postmodern philosophy, while everything else is predominantly varying levels of "old."

I find simulation theory bullshit because why would an alien or something else make a simulation of us to learn things that they already know?

It could be not for scientific purposes, but just entertainment. Like how almost everyone wants graphics similar to real life. Still a waste of time if you ask me.

Where are you getting that it's philosophy, btw? I don't think it's a subject that any philosophers have commented on to any extent, unless we vaguely take anti-realist positions wrt an external world to be equivalent to simulation theory.
