One thing fire ant levels introduce is the possibility of ants being stranded. In this video, a group is cut off when the water level changes. Stranded ants are panicky and unpredictable, and will die quickly if they're not reunited with the main colony. In this case the rise in water level means a floating bridge can now be built, so the stranded ants are brought home.
