After the game has started there is no way to see which species unit option is chosen (other than by using them).
Are these taunt or stun majors? (They are stun majors, but with just the tooltip you can't tell. I picked them, so I know in advance.)
An example where they player doesn't know in advance is aggrandise, where you only know you have been given mortar wood ants after using them at least once.
