About those blue ants in the demo video

They look really really unnatural. You could achieve a similar color distinction by making them bright yellow.

There's a lot of yellowish ants, like Lasius flavus (yellow meadow ant):

There's also some green ants, like Oecophylla smaragdina (asian weaver ant):

There's even some with color patterns, like certain versions of Camponotus nicobarensis, this could look good even with unnatural colors such as purple, blue or cyan.

Another way to do it would be to apply color only to the heads like Camponotus singularis does, maybe combined with a dot-patter on the gaster (abdomen) as in the picture above.

The reason for the blue ants is very simple: color blindness. There is no form of color blindness that confuses red and blue, which is why we used it. There are several forms that confuse red with green or yellow.

It's unlikely the opponents will be this differently colored in the final game but that is why specifically for this demonstration.

This is the video Serafine was referring to:

Thank you :)

There are games which help players with colorblindness. Switches in Options enable or disable filters for different kinds of this defect, however I never saw such thing in Unreal games. I have no idea if Epic supports this feature.

The ant colours have actually been designed to be changeable. We can give them any colour we want using an RGB system. The system is an adaptation which is why you may not have seen it elsewhere. We have used materials in specific areas of the ant that can be assigned to a bright team colour, allowing us to have the natural ant colour or team colour stripes when needed.
