I've put each ant species against an uber crab to test their performance at a total tilecost of around 46500 per species on the open lane of battle arena:
Black ants: 310 lvl 3 soldiers. They all died with the crab taking little (less than 1/5th total health) damage.
Wood ants: 140 lvl 3 melee + 140 lvl 3 mortars. They killed the uber crab, losing almost all melee ants while all mortars remained alive.
Leafcutter ants: 50 lvl 3 majors (taunt) + 100 lvl 3 media. All ants died and the uber survive at 1/5th health.
So I did the next logical thing and put each ant against the other on the open lane:
Values are survival rates.
I used the same armies as used in the last test.
310 black ants vs 280 wood ants: 0/269, 0/266, 0/269
310 black ants vs 150 leafcutters: 0/143, 0/142, 0/141
280 wood ants vs 150 leafcutters: 161/0, 180/0 179/0
Poor black ant soldiers...
Now let's see how the wood ants perform against both armies at once:
280 wood ants vs 310 black ants + 150 leafcutter ants: 168/0, 170/0, 185/0.
Let's see how far I can take this, for science! I'm halving the wood ant army and run the same test:
140 wood ants vs 310 black ants + 150 leafcutter ants: 49/0, 32/0, 38/0.
Hmm...
What would happen if I changed the lvl 3 mortars for lvl 3 rapidfires?
280 lvl 3 wood ants vs 310 black ants + 150 leafcutters: 0/264, 0/260, 0/269.
Whoa, that is a huge difference.
Doing the previous ant species vs species test for wood ants:
280 wood ants vs 310 black ants: 245/0, 243/0, 241/0. (It looks like black ants are doomed to be stuck at the bottom of the food chain.)
280 wood ants vs 150 leafcutter ants: 119/0, 137/0, 122/0.
Woodants still seem to have a significant edge over other ants of the same tile cost.
