The ants have encountered a pocket of woodworm. These defenseless weevil larvae will make an excellent meal for the colony. They will be butchered, and carried off for processing.

In Empires of the Undergrowth, the immediate, overriding priority for your colony is to find food - and it's in abundance if you look in the right place. This clip also showcases how the narrator will work - as your colony explores its surroundings, the narrator will fulfill their role as a documentary maker by providing vital commentary.

Yeah, it's looking nice. John has recently changed the way enemies provide food when they die - instead of just dropping a load of food and despawning, the corpses stay around. The ants then have to attack it to get a food item, and the corpse finally despawns when all the food is taken from it.

Personally I find this way of things much more satisfying.
